Police refused to take him to hospital even after complained of chest pain, could have saved him if brought a bit earlier, say doctors

KOZHIKODE: An auto driver made some revelations over the death of the youth in police custody in Vadakara. Sajeevan of Kalleri died in police custody. The auto driver said that he saw a person collapsing in the premises of the police station and saw a cop coming out and looking at him.

The auto driver and his friends took him to the cooperative hospital in Vadakara. He died in half an hour. The auto driver said the doctors told them that if he was brought a bit earlier, his life could have been saved.

Sajeevan’s friends alleged that he was brutally beaten. He complained of chest pain while in custody. However, the police refused to take him to the hospital. He collapsed while coming out of the station. Sought the help of the police to take him to the hospital, but they refused to oblige.

The car in which Sajeevan and his friends were travelling collided with another vehicle. A dispute broke out between the two groups over compensation.

Following that, the passengers of the other car informed the police. He admitted to the police of being drunk and soon the sub inspector beat him, alleged his friends.

However, the police explained that he did not collapse while in police custody. He was released after interrogation, the authorities said.
