THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department has issued warning about the possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms at isolated places in the state till July 30.
The State Disaster Management Authority has advised to take precautions when the rain clouds becomes visible and instructed not to avoid precautions because lightning is not visible. Avoid standing in open areas during lightning. Windows and doors should be closed. Disconnect the electrical connection to household appliances. Using electrical equipment should be avoided. It is dangerous to sit on the terrace, elevated places or tree branches during thunderstorms. Kite flying should also be avoided.
If the weather is cloudy, do not allow children to play in open areas and terraces. There is no electric current in the body of a person who has been struck by lightning. So medical help must be provided immediately to the person. Fishing or bathing in water bodies must be avoided. People who are driving should remain inside their vehicles during thunderstorms as they are safer inside. The State Disaster Management Authority also cautions that traveling in vehicles such as bicycles, bikes and tractors should be avoided.
