Toll rises to two in Mankayam flash flood; Missing woman’s body recovered

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of the woman missing in the Mankayam river following a flash flood in Palode, has been recovered. The body is that of Shani (34) of Nedumangad. The body was recovered from Moonnattu Mukku. The body of Shani’s cousin Nasriya Fathima of Sunaj Mansil in Nedumangad was found yesterday.

The accident happened at Mankayam waterfalls at around 6 pm yesterday. The flash floods struck when a family of ten members from Nedumangad were taking a bath in the Mankayam river yesterday.

Thought the locals rescued eight people Nasriya Fathima and Shani could not be found. In a search conducted, the body of the child was found half a kilometre away. Though she was rushed to the hospital, her life could not be saved.
