Kills neighbour who was sleeping at home, accused arrested

THODUPUZHA: A man has hacked his neighbour to death while he was sleeping. Vannapuram native Joby Baby (45) is the deceased. His neighbour Puthanpurayil Rajeev (55) has been arrested in connection with the murder. The incident happened on Sunday around 10.30 pm.

According to police, Joby and Rajeev who were neighbours used to drink together. They regularly quarreled after getting drunk. A few days before, Joby and his friend had beaten up Rajeev after drinking. It was again continued on Sunday. Rajeev came to Joby's house around 10 pm and hacked him on the right arm. Then he escaped. Joby lived alone and the neighbour who came in search of him on Monday found the body. Kaliyar police was informed and they reached the spot. The primary conclusion of the police is that the cause of death was excessive bleeding from the wound in the hand. After a detailed examination, the body was sent for post-mortem. The police said that Rajeev was involved in several cases. He will be produced before court today.
