March staged by Youth League turns violent, slippers hurled at police

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The march staged by the Youth League in front of the Secretariat turned violent. The activists hurled bottles, slippers and chairs towards the police. They also pelted stones at them.

The police used grenades when the activists turned violent. The state committee of the Muslim Youth League staged a protest march to the secretariat raising the slogan 'Save Kerala March' against the state government. The march raised issues such as corruption, unemployment, financial crisis, price rise, drug mafia, etc. Deputy opposition leader P K Kunhalikutty inaugurated the march. The activists became violent soon after the speeches of state chief P K Firoz and Kunhalikutty.

The police first resorted to lathicharge and then used tear gas shells. However, when the activists failed to disperse, they used grenades. The rally which started from Museum Junction at 10 am ended in front of the Secretariat.
