LONDON: Some things become more valuable with the passage of time. This is certain if it's a masterpiece in any field. One such incident has happened in the case of the magical book series of Harry Potter. JK Rowling's seven-book novel is globally loved by everyone, regardless of age. One of the first edition books of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has been sold for £36,000 at an auction. This comes to more than Rs 38 lakh.

The book that was bought in 1997 for just £10 is now sold for Rs 38 lakh. The auction took place at Lichfield in Staffordshire. According to a report in the English media, one of the 500 copies that was printed first has now been sold at auction. The book fetched such a high price at the auction because it gained value with the passing of time.

The book was purchased by Christine McCulloch from Stratford Avon. She had bought the book for her son Adam. Neither Christine nor Adam realized at the time the future value of the book, which had been kept in the cupboard under the stairs at their family home in Chesterfield for years. It was only when the news of the auction of earlier editions of this book during the lockdown came in that Christine recalled the priceless treasure sitting in her house. Published by Bloomsbury on June 30, 1997, the book was released in London first.
