GLASGOW: The 23rd Commonwealth Games open in Glasgow on Thursday, with nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories set to compete over the next 12 days.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Hydro Indoor Arena, officially launching the multi-sport event. This edition of the Games will feature competition in 10 sports, with a significantly reduced programme compared with the previous Games, as the number of medal events has been nearly halved.

The Para Commonwealth Games will be staged alongside the main event, with athletes competing in six sports across the same venues, reinforcing the Games' integrated format.
Attention is also turning to the future, with India confirmed as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
