NEW DELHI: Despite rumours of the possibility of the first India-Afghanistan T20 match being postponed due to the BRICS summit in the national capital, the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced that the game will proceed as scheduled on September 13. Security arrangements related to the BRICS summit had raised concerns regarding the match, which is set to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Consequently, the Delhi Police had requested that the match be rescheduled.

However, the DDCA clarified this evening that there would be no change to the match date. Following a meeting with the Delhi Traffic Police, the DDCA stated that assurances regarding all necessary support and arrangements for the match had been received. "The first India-Afghanistan T20 match scheduled for September 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium will take place as planned. Following a meeting with the Delhi Traffic Police, all necessary support and arrangements have been assured to the DDCA," the association posted on social media.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the match is likely to be postponed by one day. Reports suggest that there are moves in some quarters to hold the match on September 14, the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. There are also indications that the possibility of rescheduling the match cannot be entirely ruled out. The series consists of three matches; the second and third matches are scheduled for September 15 and 17.
