England humiliation followed by ICC penalty: Pakistan slip to bottom of WTC table after seven defeats in nine Tests

NEW DELHI: Pakistan have suffered another setback following their 0-3 Test series defeat to England, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) deducting 11 points from their World Test Championship (WTC) tally for a slow over rate in the third Test at Edgbaston. The players have also been fined 50 per cent of their match fees.

The penalty has pushed Pakistan further down the WTC points table, leaving them in ninth place. They have won only two of their nine Tests and lost seven, with their points percentage falling to 4.63. Pakistan bowled 11 overs short of the required rate in the third Test in Birmingham, prompting the ICC to take action against the team.

The West Indies are just above Pakistan in the standings with 30 points and a points percentage of 20.83. Sri Lanka are seventh with 33.33 per cent, while England, who completed a 3-0 series win over Pakistan, are sixth with 38.54 per cent. India are fifth with 68 points and a points percentage of 51.52. Australia lead the table with 96 points and an 80 per cent points percentage. South Africa are second with 75 per cent, followed by New Zealand with 72.22 per cent and Bangladesh with 55.56 per cent.

Pakistan will have to wait until November for their next WTC assignment. They will host Sri Lanka for a two-Test series, with the matches scheduled to be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
