LONDON: It is reported that Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid is a likely contender to become the new England Test team coach. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) sacked current coach Brendon McCullum following the test series defeat. Dravid is being considered as McCullum's replacement. The ECB decided to replace McCullum after the 1-2 defeat in the domestic Test series against New Zealand. Meanwhile, McCullum will continue to coach England's ODI and T20 teams.
Dravid’s track record as India's cricket head coach was praiseworthy, and this led the ECB to consider their options with the test cricket legend. Dravid was able to lead India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and to the final of the 2023 World Test Championship. At the same time, reports are coming out that Dravid is not interested in becoming a full-time coach. It is reported that the England Cricket Board will inquire about Dravid's interest in this regard.
Apart from Dravid, the names of former England coach Andy Flower, former England spinner Richard Dawson, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, England coach Lionel Andrew Flintoff, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson and former Australian coach Justin Langer are also being considered.
