Shubman Gill and KL Rahul hit centuries as India dominate Afghanistan in one-off test

NEW CHANDIGARH: India dominated on the opening day of the one-off Test against Afghanistan, with captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain KL Rahul leading the charge with impressive centuries. Gill brought up his century with a fluent 101 runs off 140 balls, including 11 fours and one six. The Indian skipper looked in complete control as he guided the team to a strong position.

At the other end, newly appointed vice-captain KL Rahul continued his fine form by scoring a century. Rahul made the most of an early reprieve after Afghanistan chose not to take a DRS review. He went on to score 100 runs off 165 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and registering the 12th Test century of his career.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant also looked in excellent touch. He reached his half-century in 70 balls, with his innings featuring two fours and three sixes. Opener Sai Sudharsan provided India with a solid start, scoring 81 runs, while Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 24 before being dismissed.

At the end of the first day's play, India are in a commanding position at 368/3. For Afghanistan, Mohammad Saleem claimed two wickets, while Ziaur Rahman picked up one wicket.
