Predating the social media era, in 2005, when the Telugu movie Bunny was released, unusually, the theatres in Kerala became chock full with youngsters. Many were in shock seeing the rush since it was neither of the movies starring the big Ms of Mollywood nor the cheeky Tamil action flicks. The rush signalled the rising fandom for Telugu superstar Allu Arjun among Malayali youths. It should be taken into account that Allu was just 22 in 2005, but his charm had already pervaded Kerala. It was also a story of marketing success that saw the Malayalam dubbed version of the dashing young Allu movies getting such acceptance in Kerala.
21 years later, Allu Arjun’s evergreen movie ‘Happy’ is back in theatres in its 4K remastered version, the latest to join the rerelease trend.
As expected, jubilance took over the theatres in Kerala as youngsters went into a frenzy with reels filling the internet showing them shaking a leg for the popular pep number from the movie. The trend is ongoing in full swing, with tickets also getting sold like hotcakes. The vibe felt in theatres suggests that Allu’s popularity is still intact, even among Gen Z moviegoers in the state.
The movie has already emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film in the state for 2026.
Heightening the ‘Happy’ fever, even popular actress Anaswara Rajan reached Savitha theatre in disguise just to dance for the tunes that must have made her childhood super special. The video of Anaswara dancing with her friends has already gone viral on social media. The video was posted by Anaswara's sister.
It is reported that Happy 4K grossed over 20 lakhs on the first day in Kerala upon its re-release.
