“I won’t be part of sequel": Mohanlal’s three looks removed from Jailer 2

Costume designer Jishad Shamsudeen, who worked on Mohanlal’s looks for Jailer 2, has expressed disappointment over the removal of three of the actor’s looks and the trimming of a scene that featured in the film’s trailer. He has also stated that he will not be part of a future instalment of the franchise if another sequel is made.

Starring Rajinikanth, Jailer 2 also features Mohanlal and Sooraj Venjaramoodu in prominent roles. Following the film’s theatrical release, Jishad took to social media to share his concerns about the changes made to Mohanlal’s portions in the final cut.

In his note, Jishad said he had been confident about the work based on the scenes originally shot, even when the trailer offered only a two-second glimpse of Mohanlal. However, he revealed that three distinct looks of the actor had been removed entirely from the film, while the scene featured in the trailer had also been trimmed.

Drawing on his experience in cinema, Jishad said he felt that trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal was unnecessary. He added that he would not associate himself with a future sequel, should one be made.

The costume designer also apologised to those who had placed their trust in him. Emphasising that his work was not driven by favours, profits, box-office milestones or stardom, he said his commitment was to the fans, those who appreciate the craft, and Mohanlal.

Jishad concluded his note by thanking everyone who had supported him throughout his journey.

Jishad Shamsudeen’s full statement:

“To everyone who loves and supports me:

With the release of Jailer 2, I want to share an important update!

Based on what was shot, I was completely confident in our work—even when reduced to a two-second glimpse in the trailer. But with the film's release, three of Mohanlal Sir's distinct looks were cut entirely, and even that trailer scene was trimmed out.

From my experience in cinema, trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal Sir is simply unnecessary.

Seeing our superstar reduced like this, if there is a sequel, I will not be a part of it. I am truly sorry to everyone who trusted me.

I don't stand for favours, profits, crore clubs, or stardom. I stand solely for the fans, lovers of the craft, and Mohanlal Sir.

Thank you for always standing by my journey.
