‘I am father of 11-year-old daughter; I have to explain many things to her’

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran spoke openly about the growing sense of insecurity in society and the concerns he faces as a parent. He was speaking during the trailer launch of his upcoming Bollywood film Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar. He said that, as the father of an 11-year-old daughter, he is going through a very difficult phase.

‘As a parent, I am going through a very difficult time. I have an 11-year-old daughter. This is a stage where I have to talk to her and help her understand what is safe and what is not. If we were living in an innocent world, I would not have to talk to my daughter about such things, but we do not live in such a world. As citizens, what else can we do apart from talking to our children about these issues?

We should not have these conversations only with girls. We need to speak to boys with the same seriousness as well. If anyone has a greater responsibility in this matter, it is men. We are the ones who should be prepared to raise this message strongly in society and take the lead in doing so,’ he added.
