DEHRADUN: A 23-year-old student preparing for the NEET exam committed suicide in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The student, identified as Riya, was reportedly under severe mental stress while thinking about the NEET re-examination. Riya was a school topper and had scored 96.7% marks in her Class 12 examination.

The tragic incident happened on Monday morning. A suicide note was recovered from her bedroom. The note said, "I love you, mummy and papa. No one is responsible for my death. I am the sole reason for my failures." Police said that the intense pressure related to studies may have led Riya to take the extreme step.

Riya used to study late into the night and usually woke up late in the morning. When her mother knocked on her bedroom door to call her for food, she did not respond. The family informed her father and other relatives. They later broke open the door and found Riya hanging inside the room.

Riya could not qualify for the medical entrance exam NEET in her first attempt. She was preparing hard for the re-examination scheduled for June 21. Her parents said they had not noticed any unusual changes in her behaviour. Neighbours told police that Riya was very close to her parents and that there were no issues between them. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
