NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah ridiculed Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Rahul Gandhi, stating that the latter’s dream of becoming the Prime Minister will not bear fruit and said that he is best fit for the mock parliament. Shah also criticised the 'India' alliance's move to hold a mock parliament and announce the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
“Sonia Gandhi dreams of her son becoming the Prime Minister. Since that has not materialised, a 'mock parliament' has been devised as an alternative. She might as well remain in that mock parliament for the rest of her life. The Congress party has been facing defeat for the past 15 years; they will continue to remain in the opposition for the next three general elections as well.” Amit Shah made these remarks after inaugurating development projects worth Rs 258 crore in Chandigarh.
At a public rally held in Punjab—where assembly elections are approaching—Amit Shah invoked the anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
“On November 1, 1984, numerous Sikhs were killed in Delhi. By holding a rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1st, the Congress has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. Thousands of people were burned alive. The then-Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, remarked that "when a big tree falls, the earth shakes." Only Congress leaders could make such a cruel statement.
The same Rajiv’s son, Rahul, organising a rally on this very day is akin to rubbing salt into the wounds of the victims. These moves are done under instructions from abroad. Neither the nation nor Punjab will ever forget this. When the Modi government came to power, it conducted a comprehensive investigation into the cases against the rioters. Financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh was provided to each of the families of those killed, and prominent Congress leaders implicated in the violence were sent to jail,” said Amit Shah.
