NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday launched a nationwide march from Delhi to counter opposition protests led by the Congress against the revision of electoral rolls. BJP national president Nitin Nabin inaugurated the march, which is being held under the slogan “Protect Democracy, End Anarchy”.
Addressing the gathering, Nabin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would hoist the national flag at the Red Fort even after the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that democracy was safe under Modi’s leadership and accused Rahul Gandhi of carrying a copy of the Constitution without respecting its values. Nabin alleged that the Congress was attempting to turn the interests of one family into the law of the country. He said Indian democracy had survived attempts to undermine it during the Emergency and that voters continued to correct such political tendencies through elections.
Nabin also alleged that electoral rolls contained duplicate entries and that many voters could not be traced. He accused the opposition of wanting such irregularities to continue and alleged that Rahul Gandhi was creating opportunities for infiltrators by encouraging an atmosphere of anarchy in the country. These allegations were part of Nabin’s political remarks and were not independently established by the statements cited in the report.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said people had faith in the Union government and Modi’s leadership, adding that voters knew whom they had voted for and who had won. The march began at Shri Jain Lal Mandir near the Red Fort and concluded at Town Hall Chowk in Chandni Chowk. BJP Delhi unit president Harsh Malhotra, minister Parvesh Verma and other party leaders also participated.
The BJP launched the campaign ahead of the INDIA bloc’s rally scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to protest against the revision of electoral rolls. The party said similar marches would be organised in other parts of the country, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath scheduled to lead a march in Lucknow on November 1 and Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to lead one in Telangana on November 2.
