Cockroach Janta Party calls off strike after Supreme Court quashes cases

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has quashed the cases related to the protests staged by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The action was taken after the central government informed the court that it would withdraw the cases. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said the cases were being cancelled to ensure justice. Following the central government’s decision, the CJP informed the Supreme Court that it had withdrawn the protest march scheduled to be held in Delhi on September 5.

The CJP’s spokesperson and co-convener, Saurav Das, conveyed the organisation’s stand before the bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant. ‘Considering the assurances given by the central government and the order being passed by the court today, we are withdrawing the call for the protest march,’ Saurav Das informed the court.

Welcoming the CJP’s decision, the Chief Justice said that the issues could be resolved easily if both sides adopted an appropriate approach. The CJP had ended its nationwide protests against the NEET question paper leak on July 25. The organisation had announced that it would stage another protest on September 5, alleging that the assurances given by the central government at that time had not been fulfilled.

The march had been planned from India Gate to the New Delhi Police Headquarters. The CJP alleged that its demands, including the withdrawal of cases registered in connection with the protests, had not been met. Following renewed assurances from the central government on the matter, the organisation decided to withdraw the proposed protest march.
