Three dead, one missing in Nagaland landslide

KOHIMA: At least three people were killed and one child is reported missing after a severe landslide struck Nagaland’s Mon district on Sunday morning. Several houses were completely destroyed in the incident, and authorities fear the death toll could rise as search operations continue to locate those believed to be trapped under the debris.

Joint rescue operations are currently underway, led by the Nagaland Police, the Indian Army, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), with support from local volunteers. The search efforts are being severely hampered by the region’s difficult terrain and ongoing adverse weather conditions. Rescuers are also navigating the challenge of strong water currents that are cutting through the disaster-hit zone, complicating the search for survivors.

In a statement issued following the incident, he announced financial compensation for the families of the victims and assured that the state government is taking all necessary measures to support the affected communities and expedite relief efforts.

With heavy rainfall continuing to batter the region, local authorities have issued an urgent advisory urging residents in landslide-prone areas to relocate to safer ground to prevent further casualties.
