One pilot involved in Air India flight turbulence incident fails dope test

NEW DELHI: Reports said that one of the pilots involved in the turbulence hit Air India aircraft has failed the dope test. This cannot be confirmed as more results are awaited. Air India has not yet made an official confirmation on the incident. The company explained that although tests were conducted, the results were not shared with them. The plane, which took off from Phuket in Thailand, with 145 passengers on board, was en route to Delhi on Tuesday.

Air India’s AI 2379 flight encountered turbulence in the air. 17 including four crew members, were injured in the accident. As the plane suddenly plunged 300 feet, passengers who were not wearing seat belts hit the ceiling of the plane and fell. All the bags and belongings inside the plane were scattered. Many suffered serious head injuries. Passengers said that the unexpected impact occurred at the time when the seat belt sign was off. The passengers were admitted to the hospital immediately after the plane landed in Delhi.


The DGCA is investigating the incident. As per the Civil Aviation Rules, crew members are subjected to drug tests. The pilot was subjected to the test as part of this. As part of the investigation, the pilots have been removed from duty. If the drug test result is negative, they can return to work. Otherwise, action will be taken as per the DGCA rules.
