NEW DELHI: The student protest at Jamia Millia Islamia University triggered an outrage after "Free Kashmir" and "Free Sharjeel Imam" graffiti appeared on the college walls. These slogans emerged on the university walls while a hunger strike—demanding the reinstatement of student union elections—was entering its third day.

Slogans have also been raised against the RSS, ABVP, and the Vice-Chancellor. It is not clear who wrote them. The university has yet to issue an official response. On Friday night, Delhi Police took into custody Congress MP Imran Masood and Samajwadi Party MP Mohibullah Nadvi, who had arrived to visit the protesters. Masood stated that he does not support the slogans and affirmed that Kashmir is an integral part of India. The primary demands of students include holding elections and withdrawing the disciplinary actions taken against students in connection with the protests.
