KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has suffered another setback after police froze the party’s bank accounts containing Rs 440 crore. The action was taken following a complaint filed by rebel MLAs from the party. The rebel leaders have demanded a probe into the source of the funds. The development has further intensified the ongoing internal conflict within the party.
The internal crisis in the Trinamool Congress deepened after the party’s major defeat in the recent assembly elections. A dispute has emerged between two factions over organisational and financial responsibilities. One faction is led by former minister Arup Biswas, while the other is led by opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee.
Amid the growing tensions, ten MLAs supporting Ritabrata Banerjee approached the Cyber Crime Police Station and filed a complaint. They alleged that the source of funds in three party accounts was unclear. The MLAs demanded an investigation to determine whether the money was linked to corruption, misuse of public funds, or any other illegal activities. The rebel MLAs have also sought the registration of an FIR and a detailed investigation into the matter.
