KOLKATA: Authorities in West Bengal have demolished an office linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee. Officials alleged that the five-storey building was constructed without an approved plan and in violation of building regulations. The demolished office was located in Amtala, within Abhishek Banerjee's Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency.
Heavy security was deployed before the demolition, with both the West Bengal Police and central armed forces stationed at the site. BJP MLA Agnishwar Naskar from Amtala welcomed the action, saying the building had violated construction rules. Following the demolition, BJP workers celebrated by raising slogans.
The district administration said the demolition was carried out after receiving complaints about the alleged illegal construction. Officials said notices had been issued asking the concerned parties to appear before the authorities and provide an explanation.
According to the administration, the land where the office stood is registered in the name of a company called Leaps and Bounds. The notices also sought documents related to the ownership of the land and the construction of the building. Officials said the demolition was carried out after no response was received to two separate notices served on the concerned parties. As of now, the Trinamool Congress has not officially responded to the incident, according to reports.
