Protest against stray dog menace: Four dogs placed on panchayat secretary’s desk

MUMBAI: Yuva Sena (UBT) district president Vikram Randhave arrived at the Niphad Nagar Panchayat office in Maharashtra’s Nashik with something unusual- sacks containing stray dogs! Niphad Nagar Panchayat secretary Dheeraj Bhamre was surprised when Randhave and his supporters arrived carrying the sacks. Soon, four dogs were taken out one by one and placed on the secretary’s desk.

Randhave opened the sacks and released the dogs as a protest against the stray dog menace in the area. Videos of the incident, which took place the other day, have gone viral on social media.

Randhave said the unusual protest was organised after repeated complaints about stray dogs failed to bring any action. He claimed that at least 100 people are attacked by dogs in the area every month and that more than 400 stray dogs are roaming the locality. The secretary stayed back and heard the complaints. Randhave and the activists left after warning that they would return with more dogs if the issue was not resolved within eight days.

“The stray dog menace has been severe in the area for the past six months. Children have also been bitten. No action was taken. That is why we staged this kind of protest,” Randhave said.
