NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled his political journey as he completed 25 years as head of the government. Modi said that when he took oath as the chief minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, he had never imagined that he would go on to reach such a significant milestone.
Modi was speaking at the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The Prime Minister said that completing 25 consecutive years was the result of the continued support and blessings of the people. He expressed his gratitude to the people of the country.
Modi also thanked those who had supported him as well as those who had opposed and criticised him throughout his journey. He said that those who opposed him had helped him understand the strength of democracy, while his critics had taught him to engage in self-evaluation.
He added that he still considers himself a student and that continuing to learn would enable him to do more for the country. Modi said that reaching this stage in a journey spanning a quarter of a century was not merely a day to revisit memories, but also an opportunity to draw energy for making new commitments.
Modi said that collective efforts by the people were crucial to the country's development journey. He also expressed his gratitude to all the parties in the NDA alliance.
He said that India would achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and accomplish major national objectives. He added that, alongside economic growth, India's next goals included establishing its own identity in areas such as self-reliance, technology, manufacturing and space research.
Modi presented the completion of 25 years in public leadership not as a personal achievement, but as a new phase that would provide fresh energy for continued efforts towards the country's progress.
