90 kg of ganja brought from Andhra Pradesh seized; two detained in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ninety kilograms of ganja were seized from Vellarada in Thiruvananthapuram early Thursday morning. The ganja bought from Andhra Pradesh, was being transported in a car. Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped the car and conducted a search, during which the ganja was found. Two identified as Akhil A and Sudheesh have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. The ganja was concealed in a secret compartment inside the car. The police said further investigation is underway.

Meantime, two youths from West Bengal were arrested by the Ernakulam Excise Range team for allegedly possessing 16.356 kg of ganja inside buckets. The arrested have been identified as Raj Mondal (30) of Baturia, and Rahul (24) of Sagarpada. The accused were arrested from Kakkanad at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday by a team led by Ernakulam Excise Range Inspector Abhiraj.

The ganja had been compressed into two buckets, approximately eight kilograms in each, and sealed using gum. They had brought the contraband to Kerala by train. The accused were reportedly paid Rs 25,000 per trip for transporting ganja. Their method was to travel to a predetermined location, deliver the consignment, and return to West Bengal on the same day. Both were visiting Kerala for the first time. The ganja mafia allegedly sent them to Kerala after promising that they would arrange their release by paying money if they were caught on the way.
