THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have intensified investigation to find the reason behind the brutal killing of a one-year-old baby by her mother in the capital city. Christy (29), of Kizhakkumkara Puthen Veedu, Pulavanniyurkonam, near Vilavoorkal Government Hospital, who attempted suicide after the gruesome murder, is presently undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital.
Although a case has been registered against Christy, she has not yet been formally arrested. The arrest will be recorded only after further grilling. The police said that they will examine whether Christy has any mental issues. A forensic examination of the spot will begin soon.
Christy told police that issues with her husband Abhijith and his family led to the murder. She also told police that she had decided to kill her daughter and then commit suicide. The shocking incident happened at around 3:30 pm on Thursday at Pottayil in Vilavoorkkal. The baby dead is Ivana (Anna).
Only Abhijith's relatives Neshamma and Jacintha, along with Christy and Ivana, were at the house at the time of the incident. Neshamma and Jacintha, who grew suspicious of Christy's unusual behaviour, looked into the room only to find Ivana lying in a pool of blood. The neighbours rushed to the spot hearing their screams, and then rushed the baby first to Malayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital and later to SAT Hospital, but the doctors could not save her.
The brutal killing was when Abhijith, a medical representative, went for work. Yesterday was the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary. Christy was admitted to the hospital after she told police that she had consumed pills for suicide.
