Youth hacked to death in drunken brawl in Pulpally, two in custody

WAYANAD: A youth, who was undergoing treatment after being hacked during a drunken brawl at Pulpally in Wayanad, has died. The dead has been identified as Laiju of Koodathayi in Thamarassery. Shafeeq Abdul Salam of Thazhava in Kollam, who sustained severe injuries in the attack is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The incident happened Saturday night at around 9:30 pm at a rented cottage in Anappara, Pulpally. When Laiju and Shafeeq were drinking together, Paneer Selvam of Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, entered their room. An argument then broke out between them. In the meanwhile, Paneer Selvam called his friend Shekhar to the spot.

The two then attacked Laiju and Shafeeq with weapons, inflicting severe injuries. The critically injured Laiju and Shafeeq were admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Laiju succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The Pulpally police took Paneer Selvam and Shekhar into custody in the incident. Police said they are gathering information and questioning them.
