Police arresting accused

KOLLAM: The accused who escaped from Kundara police custody was arrested on Saturday. The police arrested Vaijesh (23), a native of Puthennada, Ezhukone, near Sarathi Junction. The accused escaped from custody following an error made by the guard, who forgot to lock the cell. Vaijesh, who was taken into custody in a theft case, opened the cell and escaped by jumping over the walls of the police station.

The police took him into custody two days ago on a complaint of stealing wiring materials from a house in Nanthirickal. Vaijesh had also rented tools for cutting wiring and plumbing materials from a power tools shop in Nanthirickal. On Tuesday night, when Vaijesh came to return these, the family members stopped him and informed the police.

Rural Control Room SI Anilkumar reached the spot and took him into custody. After medical examination, Vaijesh was brought to Kundara station. On Tuesday night, only two policemen were present at the station. After placing Vaijesh in the cell, they forgot to lock it. At around 1:30 am, Vaijesh opened the cell and saw the guard talking with his friend. He made the most of the moment and walked out unnoticed.
