Poured boiling water on elderly woman: Granddaughter arrested, search underway for Ashwathy Achu

KOLLAM: A teen, responsible for throwing boiled water at her grandmother over a property dispute, was taken into custody in Kollam. Amrutha (18), a native of Ayoor, was arrested by the Chadayamangalam police. Amrutha told the police that she poured boiling water at the behest of her mother, Aswathy. Aswathy remains at large.

The incident occurred on September 26. The victim, Radhamani (61), a native of Idamulakkal, Ayoor, sustained burns. Amrutha poured boiling water on Radhamani's face while she was at the sit-out of the house. Radhamani, who suffered severe burns to her face and neck, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

On the night of the incident, Aswathy had dropped her daughter off at her husband's house, from where Amrutha was subsequently taken into custody. The police are currently searching for Aswathy.

Amrutha stated that her mother, Aswathy, had boiled the water, placed it in a vessel, and instructed her to pour it onto Radhamani. Aswathy, known as 'Aswathy Achu', is an accused in several cases, including a honey-trap scandal that implicated high-ranking police officers and prominent political figures. Police had discovered that she committed fraud by creating social media accounts under various aliases and using photographs of other young women. The investigation team stated that the search for Aswathy has been intensified and that she will be apprehended soon.
