DYFI leader Amal arrested in Kafir screenshot case

KOZHIKODE: One more arrest has been registered in the Vadakara Kafir screenshot case. The special investigation team arrested DYFI leader Amal, a member of the DYFI Vadakara Town Regional Block Committee and a member of the Kannankuzhi branch.

Amal was arrested in the case of sharing a fake Kafir screenshot in a WhatsApp group called Red Battalion. The investigation team had earlier questioned Amal. The SIT found that Amal is also involved in circulating the screenshot. DYFI activist Jithin Bhaskar was earlier arrested in the case. Jithin, who was remanded, was granted bail by the Kozhikode District Sessions Court after 18 days with strict conditions.

The reception accorded to Jithin by CPM activists after his release from jail had stoked a big controversy. The SIT arrested Jithin on June 16. Jithin is a member of the DYFI block committee and a member of the CPM local committee. DYFI's response is that the case is completely politically motivated.

The DYFI had claimed that Jithin has no role in it. However, the police explanation is that Jithin himself made the screenshot and circulated it. DYFI activist Ribesh Ramakrishnan was granted anticipatory bail in the Kafir screenshot case yesterday. The anticipatory bail was granted by the Kozhikode District Sessions Court.
