THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid continuing heavy rainfall across Kerala and forecasts of heavier rain in the coming days, district administrations in Kasaragod, Kozhikode and Kannur have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Tuesday, June 9.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Kasargod, Kannur and Kozhikode districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. Several parts of the state have already reported severe rain, waterlogging, and flooding in low-lying areas due to the ongoing monsoon.

Holiday in Kasaragod

Kasaragod District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Tuesday as a precautionary measure following the Red Alert issued by the IMD. The holiday will apply to all schools, colleges, including professional colleges, anganwadis, tuition centres, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas, and other religious educational institutions.

However, residential schools will function as usual. The order will not affect university examinations, public examinations, or interviews that have already been scheduled.

Holiday in Kozhikode

In Kozhikode, the District Collector has also declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Tuesday in view of the Red Alert, widespread waterlogging reported in several areas, and forecasts of continued heavy rain and strong winds over the coming days. The holiday applies to schools, professional colleges, madrasas, tuition centres, and anganwadis across the district.

University examinations and Public Service Commission (PSC) examinations scheduled for the day will be conducted as planned without any changes.

The IMD has warned that Kerala may witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days. Authorities have advised people to remain vigilant, especially in low-lying and landslide-prone areas, as continued rainfall could lead to flooding, waterlogging, and other rain-related incidents.

District administrations have urged the public to follow official advisories and take necessary precautions during the ongoing monsoon season.
