THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After declaring a holiday for educational institutions across Kerala ahead of the FIFA World Cup final, former minister M M Mani took a jibe on social media trolling Power Minister Sunny Joseph over the ongoing power cuts in the state. Mani said a holiday alone isn't enough. If one has to watch the finals, Sunnychayan has to be kind enough, Mani wrote on Facebook.
‘A holiday alone isn't enough. If one has to watch the finals, Sunnychayan must be kind enough. Power needs a guarantee as well,’ Mani wrote on Facebook.
His remark comes amid frequent and unannounced power outages that have been affecting various parts of the state.
As the power crisis intensified, the government recently approved the procurement of 200 MW of electricity from two companies. According to the order issued yesterday, the move is intended to help manage the anticipated power shortage by planning electricity distribution a day in advance.
Authorities have also directed that, if power restrictions become necessary, they should be implemented at the same scheduled time in a particular area throughout the week. At present, however, many areas are experiencing unscheduled power cuts lasting 30 minutes to over an hour, causing widespread inconvenience.
The Electricity Regulatory Commission has once again reminded the KSEB to inform consumers in advance about planned power outages. Despite earlier directives, sudden power interruptions continue, prompting the commission to reiterate its instructions to KSEB yesterday.
