KANNUR: CPM District Secretary K.K. Ragesh made a provocative speech during the LDF march to the DySP office demanding action in the Payyannur violence. While explaining that the party had no role in the burning of the shrimp shed of a supporter of CPM rebel V. Kunhikrishnan MLA, Ragesh warned that the party has the capacity to destroy not only the shed but more than that.

Ragesh also explained the reason for fielding former MLA from Payyannur constituency T.I. Madhusudhanan in the election.

“If the candidate had been changed in the wake of V. Kunhikrishnan's allegations, the opponents would have spread the word that the allegations were true. They tried to portray the party in a bad light, alleging that the CPM members set fire to the shed at the shrimp farm. No one should assume that the party in Payyannur has gone decadent following the election loss," said Ragesh.

CPM Area Secretary P. Santosh criticised the Payyannur police, calling them incompetent. Santosh also warned police not to create a situation where party members will have to take the law into their own hands.
