Kerala gets relief amid power crisis; 150 MW central power supply from tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is set to get some relief from the ongoing power crisis, with 150 MW of electricity from the central allocation becoming available to the state from tomorrow. The 150 MW supply is expected to continue until December 31. The Centre's decision comes in response to the state's repeated requests for additional power. The state government had initially written to the Centre seeking permission for 20 MW.

The additional central allocation comes as the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and the state government continue efforts to address the power shortage. The KSEB also expects to be able to purchase electricity from northern states following unexpected rainfall there.
In addition, the state has decided to purchase 300 MW of electricity from the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) until September 30, at a rate of ₹30 per unit.
