THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Appointments from the LD Clerk rank list, which covers various departments where the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) makes a large number of appointments, have progressed at a sluggish pace, with only 9 per cent of candidates securing appointments in the first year. The rank list, comprising 20,589 candidates, was published in August last year. Only 1,799 candidates have secured appointments during the past one year. The rank list is valid for three years. From the previous rank list, published in August 2022, 4,194 candidates had secured appointments during its first year. The current notification covers appointments to more than 60 departments.
According to information available, several vacancies are currently pending, including those arising from the retirement of employees in May. However, there has been little progress in accurately reporting vacancies and in the PSC issuing appointment recommendations.
Officials say the delay in appointments from the rank list was caused by the local body and Assembly elections. However, months have passed since the elections, and there is no answer as to why appointments continue to move at a slow pace.
Candidates had launched an indefinite protest in front of the Secretariat after appointments from the LP School Assistant (LPSA) and Upper Primary School Assistant (UPSA) rank lists came to a halt. The protest was settled last week after the government intervened and gave assurances during discussions with the candidates.
