Rs 1.41 crore award rises to Rs 1.77 crore with interest: Kollam Sudhi’s family to receive compensation

KOLLAM: The dependents of actor Kollam Sudhi, who died in a road accident, have been awarded Rs 1.77 crore in insurance compensation by the Kottayam Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT). The tribunal awarded Rs 1,41,09,840 as compensation. With 8.5% interest calculated from the date of filing the case until the date the amount is deposited, the total comes to around Rs 1.77 crore. The New India Assurance Company, the third respondent in the case, has been directed to deposit the amount with the court within 30 days.

The compensation will be paid to Sudhi’s wife, mother and two children. The family is receiving the compensation three years after his death. Sudhi died in a road accident at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur on June 5, 2023. He was returning to Ernakulam after attending a stage programme in Vadakara when the car in which he was travelling collided with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction at Panambikunnu on National Highway 66.

Television and mimicry artists Binu Adimali, Ullas Aroor and Mahesh Kunjumon, who were travelling with Sudhi, were also injured in the accident. Sudhi suffered serious head injuries and was taken to a hospital in Kodungallur, where he later died. Sudhi, who began his career as a mimicry artist, entered the film industry with Kanthari in 2015.

He later appeared in films including Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan, Kuttanadan Marpappa, Theetta Rappai, Vakathirivu, An International Local Story, Keshu Ee Veedinte Nadhan, Escape: The Dark Hunt and Swargathile Katturumbu.
