THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has warned of potential partial power restrictions across the state today as well, as electricity consumption continues to climb due to the ongoing impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
The state utility reported that the combination of reduced rainfall and sustained high atmospheric temperatures has caused electricity consumption to increase significantly compared to previous periods. Officials stated that with the current dry spell, the state’s power demand is projected to rise by approximately 400 to 500 megawatts today compared to previous days.
The power supply situation is further strained by a surge in electricity demand across India, which has led to a noticeable decline in the availability of electricity through power exchanges. The KSEB cautioned that if the required electricity cannot be procured through these exchanges, the utility may be forced to implement partial power restrictions during the peak evening hours to manage the deficit and maintain grid stability.
