Rainy Onam ahead! Rain alert across Kerala; Orange alert in six districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of very heavy rainfall across Kerala over the next five days. An orange alert has been issued in Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today. Heavy rainfall has been predicted. A yellow alert has been issued in the remaining districts, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

Yellow alerts have been issued tomorrow in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam. The weather department has urged people to remain vigilant, as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours is possible. People living in areas vulnerable to landslides, mudslides and flash floods have been advised to move to safer locations as directed by local authorities.

Today, on Uthradam day, heavy rain is reported in several parts of the state. Traders are concerned that the rain could disrupt various Onam-related businesses and sales.
