KANNUR: In a press conference on Monday, Kerala Students Union State Vice President Muhammed Shammas released an audio message—purportedly from Mohammed Asif, the Managing Director of Carton India Alliance—and a WhatsApp chat—allegedly sent from the number of former District Panchayat President P.P. Divya. It is alleged that Carton is a 'benami' (proxy-owned) company belonging to Divya.

The audio clip features a conversation involving the current District Panchayat President, Binoy Kurian—who served as Vice President during Divya’s tenure as President—regarding the purchase of a 'complimentary bag' at the time of the budget presentation. Binoy requested funds, and Divya said she would do it, provided the amount was not too large. A WhatsApp chat also revealed Divya instructing Asif to meet with Binoy Kurian; a screenshot of a message stating, "Asif will provide the money; please hand it over to the Vice President," was also released.

During Divya’s tenure as president, construction contracts worth Rs 10.47 crore were awarded directly to the District Nirmithi Kendra. There are suspicions regarding the interventions made by the then-District Collector. Shammas said Asif’s claim—that he was blackmailed in connection with the contract controversy involving Divya—is untrue. Shammas further demanded that Asif release his bank account statement. Meanwhile, Binoy Kurian denied the allegations.
