IDUKKI: Two one-year-old twin boys have died under suspicious circumstances at Ozhivathadam in Adimali, Idukki. The deceased infants have been identified as Ihaan and Rihan, children of Afzal and Sandra of Valiyakattu.

Their father, Afzal, told hospital authorities that the children had accidentally consumed paint thinner. He rushed them to the hospital after finding them in an unconscious condition. However, their condition deteriorated during treatment and both children died. One of the children died at the taluk hospital, while the other died at a nearby private hospital.

Hospital authorities grew suspicious of Afzal’s explanation and informed the police. Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police have also received information that Afzal and Sandra had reportedly faced family problems earlier. Afzal’s statement about the children consuming thinner is also being examined in detail.

The police are mainly investigating how the one-year-old children could have accessed and consumed the thinner. They are also looking into the possibility of murder. The parents are being questioned by the police. The exact cause of death is expected to become clear after the post-mortem report and other test results are received.
