KANNUR: The postmortem report of toddler Devansh Shaurya, who died in Payyannur, surfaced on Wednesday. The postmortem report states that the cause of death was insufficient oxygen flow to the brain following general anaesthesia. The report states that there was no need for surgery under general anaesthesia and that the wounds on the lips and cheeks were not that deep.

The postmortem was conducted at Pariyaram Medical College. Within ten minutes of administering anaesthesia, the blood flow to the brain dipped. As a result, the child fell unconscious and died five days later. A case was registered against Dr Anjali Poduval, who administered the anaesthesia. Pediatrician Dr. Asha Nirmal and plastic surgeon Dr Aarti are also under investigation. Their phones are switched off. The police have informed the Payyannur Baby Memorial Hospital management to ask all three to appear for questioning.

The investigating officer, Payyannur DySP, had written to the Kannur DMO to form a medical board. The medical records collected by the police will be handed over to the medical board. The police will take further action after receiving their report.
