Train food gets costlier: Meal price rises to Rs 110

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Food prices on trains and at railway canteens have gone up by Rs 5 to Rs 15. The revised rates for 38 regular items and 22 regional dishes came into effect on Saturday. However, there is no change in the prices of chapati (Rs 5), porotta (Rs 10) and banana fritter (Rs 20).

The price of a fish curry meal has increased from Rs 95 to Rs 110. There is no change in the price of a vegetarian meal.

The price of idli with chutney/sambar has gone up by Rs 5 to Rs 25. Masala dosa, rava dosa, rava upma, uthappam, curd vada, onion pakoda, tomato/vegetable soup, bajji (two pieces) and vada (two pieces) will now cost Rs 30 each after a Rs 5 increase.

The price of vegetable cutlet, burger and cheese sandwich has gone up by Rs 10 each to Rs 50, Rs 55 and Rs 60, respectively. An omelette now costs Rs 45 after a Rs 10 increase, while egg curry is priced at Rs 60. The prices of idiyappam, appam, kadala curry, pathiri, puttu and tapioca have also been increased by Rs 5 each.

Eight new dishes added

Eight new dishes have also been added to the menu. They include chicken curry (Rs 95), vegetable fried rice (Rs 65), egg fried rice (Rs 80), chicken fried rice (Rs 105), stuffed porotta, boneless chilli chicken, chilli chicken and vegetable noodles.
