Two students drown in Achankovil River in Konni, one rescued

PATHANAMTHITTA: Two students drowned while bathing in the Achankovil River at Konni on Saturday. Denish and Subin, two students at Konni PSVPM HSS, died in the incident. They are natives of Konnappara and Payyanamon in Konni.

It is believed that the students entered the river, mistaking it for shallow and ideal for a swim. They had arrived at the riverbank on a scooter; their clothes and other belongings were found on the shore. It is reported that the locals warned them in advance about the danger lurking in these parts of the river. Another student who entered the river with them was rescued by locals.

As the Fire Force arrived late, locals had to undertake the rescue operation. According to the locals, the two students had died by the time they were brought out to the shore.
