THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Water Authority has detected water theft under its PTP Sub-Division and issued a notice demanding Rs 2,48,522 in water charges and penalties.

The theft was detected during an inspection by a meter reader at a drinking water connection registered in the name of Thankaraj, near Aramada Church, under consumer number TMA/2721/S.

The inspection revealed an unauthorised pipeline connected before the water meter to divert water into a well. Following the discovery, the Water Authority issued a notice and disconnected the drinking water connection.

The building served by the connection houses shop rooms and an establishment named JJ Lodge. As part of further action, the Water Authority has formally informed the Poojappura Police about the water theft.
