
CHENNAI: A youth opened the emergency door and jumped out while the plane was taxiing after landing. The incident happened on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Chennai Sunday morning. A 34-year-old of Tamil Nadu, jumped out.
A senior official at Chennai airport said that no passengers were injured or killed in the incident and that the aircraft was not damaged. The man, who felt unwell and vomited during the journey, jumped out of the plane before it stopped. Reports say he vomited twice during the journey. It is believed that the youth acted in this manner due to physical discomfort.
As soon as the passenger jumped out, the pilot informed the ground security. Later, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials arrived and shifted the youth to another safe place. The youth was handed over to the police for further investigation.
As part of security precaution, the main runway at Chennai airport was closed from 3.23 am to 4.23 am. During this time, flights were diverted to the secondary runway. The name of the passenger has not been disclosed. It is reported that he is from Pudukkottai. An investigation has been launched into the incident. There were 231 passengers on board the flight.
