Woman throws slipper at Vairamuthu, clash at literary event

CHENNAI: A sandal was hurled towards poet and lyricist Vairamuthu during a literary event. The incident happened at a programme held in Tirupur yesterday. Vairamuthu arrived as a chief guest at the inaugural function of Kongu Arts, Literature and Cultural Federation held at the district collector’s office.

A sandal was hurled at Vairamuthu during the event. However, it fell among the audience. Security personnel then conducted an investigation and found that the one who pelted the shoe was a woman. Police say that she is mentally unstable. The reason for the shoe pelting is unclear and a detailed investigation has been launched into the incident, informed the police.

Singer Chinmayi had leveled a 'Me Too' allegation against Vairamuthu earlier and it had sparked a controversy. She revealed that Vairamuthu had misbehaved with her during a music event held in Switzerland. Many came forward against Vairamuthu then. However, Vairamuthu's responded that all those allegations were lies. She was attacked by some of his fans for tarnishing his image.
