KOCHI: Ripper Jayanandan had arrived at 'Sampoorna' at Ponekkara Kosheri Lane by accident. Jayanandan, who roamed around in the area as a tender coconut seller, had planned to commit a robbery at another house. However, he entered the house of 73-year-old Nanikutty Ammal and hid there as the light came on at the other house during the robbery attempt. He then removed the light bulb in the back of the house.

Jayanandan managed to get inside the house when Nanikutty Ammal's relative TV Narayana Iyer came outside to urinate. He murdered Narayana Iyer as soon as he returned to bed. Following this, he beat Nanikutty Ammal to death. Upon confirming their death, Jayanandan sexually abused the corpse of the 73-year-old woman. He left the house after robbing 44 sovereign gold jewellery and 15-gram silver jewellery from the shelf.

Jayanandan was brought to the house at Ponekkara for evidence collection at around 4 pm yesterday.

The world came to know about the brutal murder committed by Ripper Jayanandan in Ponekkara 17 years ago due to the deep guilt of his fellow prisoner. The mystery surrounding the twin murder was unfolded after he wrote a letter to the district judge a year ago. The judge, who considered the letter, soon directed an investigation.

Following this, the Crime Branch trapped Jayanandan by closely monitoring him. Jayanandan's fellow prisoner, a former soldier, turned spy for Crime Branch officials. Thus, the Crime Branch was able to secretly record Jayanandan's conversations. The fellow prisoner also recorded a confidential statement before the Magistrate. Upon presenting this evidence, Jayanandan was forced to plead guilty.

Jayanandan revealed the story of the twin murder and sexual misconduct in Ponekkara to his fellow prisoner while rejoicing over the court order commuting his death sentence to life imprisonment.
