
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The accused who stole gold worth five lakh from a passenger at the railway station has been arrested. Shyam Crispin (42), a native of Boothapandi, Kanyakumari, was arrested from the Thampanoor bus stand area on Monday night.
The theft took place on the 25th of last month at platform number 1 of the Thiruvananthapuram railway station. The accused, who went into hiding after the incident, was jointly nabbed by the RPF Crime Intelligence and the Railway Police. The accused was seen passing through Thampanoor, East Fort, Karamana and Aristo after the theft. While continuing their surveillance, RPF officials handed over information to the Thampanoor police about a suspicious person seen near the Thampanoor bus stand on Monday night.
The gold was kept in a bag at the time of theft. The suspicion of the RPF personnel was strengthened when they saw Shyam Crispin with a bag similar to the one stolen in the robbery footage that day. The Railway Police immediately reached the spot and took him into custody. During interrogation, he stated that he had hidden the stolen goods in a wooden box near a rice mill at Nedumangad. The police reached the spot with the accused and recovered all the gold. The accused was remanded.
Theft to get drunk!
The police said that the man, who does not go to work, committed the theft to get drunk. There are no other cases against him.
The accused, who is addicted to alcohol and drugs, is married but has no relationship with his family.
