THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the Chief Minister of Kerala is to be announced tomorrow, the MLAs have been instructed to reach the capital city. The party leadership summoned the appointed MLAs to reach the capital as soon as possible. The MLAs have been asked to attend the parliamentary party meeting tomorrow at 1 pm. The Chief Minister's announcement will be made after this meeting.
Once the announcement is made, the party will immediately meet the Governor and stake a claim to form the government. It is reported that all arrangements are in place. Congress sources also indicate that the person selected as the Chief Minister will come to Lok Bhavan, which is a short walk from Indira Bhavan, to stake a claim in a road show. However, this has not been officially confirmed by the leadership.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh told the media in Delhi that the high command discussions on Kerala’s new Chief Minister were completed. Even the party workers are very unhappy with the delay in deciding the Chief Minister despite registering a thumping win, securing 102 seats.
Meanwhile, among the coalition partners, the Muslim League supports V.D. Satheesan. The League's stance is that VD led from the front, and he should be declared the Chief Minister. This has been conveyed to the Congress leadership. The high command is incensed by the fact that V.D. supporters have taken to the streets in protest and even went to the extent of threatening the Gandhi family.
